“Scouts play various roles in society. They are not only participants but also service providers, creators, constructors and contributors.”
This was the statement of the Scout Association of Macau (SAM) Chief Commissioner Mr Leong Sio Pui as he addressed the participants in the first Scout Youth Forum from 23rd to 24th June 2012, at the national headquarters, situated in a well-preserved Portuguese style fortress with a history of more than 150 years, in Taipa.
Chief Commissioner Pui encouraged participants to speak out their views and share their experiences. He said working together with specific passion and dedication are important elements to advance Scouting in Macau. He added that in some ways, Scouting contributes in the sustainable development of one country and its relations to other countries.
Participants were inspired with the story of the forum's special guest, Ms Derby Lau, former Scout leader and now the Director of the Macau Post, who attributed her success to Scouting.
Mr Kuan Tin Ieong presided the Forum, assisted by two vice-chairmen Mr Jose C Rodrigues and Mr Brendan C H Lei. Resource speakers were Training Commissioner Mr Francisco Chan, Assistant Commissioner on Community Services Mr Declan Lam, and YMCA Macau representative Ms Emmy Ip.
International Commissioner Ms Francisca Vong was the Forum advisor.
