This year, a total of 33,855 Scouts and leaders from 987 Scout Groups
across Japan participated in different activities promoting environment
protection, beautification, and peace. Respect for the elderly was also
emphasized in this campaign.
Scouts were dispatched on 19th September 2011 in Miyazaki shopping
malls, Oita parks and Ariake seashore to clean up these places. In
total, over 82,000 cans and bottles were collected across the country.
As part of beautification, Hokkaido Scout Council planted flowering
plants in Takigawa streets.
SAJ adopted Scout Day in Japan as part of its Scouting programme
since 1990 with the purpose of serving the community. Since 2009, SAJ
has been a registered member of Clean Up the World Campaign celebrating
it every 3rd Monday of September in time for the Japanese national
holiday called Respect-for-the-Aged Day.
WOSM has been an ally of Clean Up the World since 2008 in its
environmental campaigns around the world empowering communities, schools
and businesses.
